Those still banging the drum for Tahoe Olympics ...ought to look North

And now a north-of-the-border reminder that things are still bad and ain't getting much better: Lead-up Vancouver Games coverage by (SI and NYT to name a few) heavy-hitter outlets is prepping audiences for seeing a torch of a different sort two weeks from now in Vancouver.
A Vancouver Sun story reported protesters have rollicked through the streets steady for more than a week — and they're just getting warmed up.
"Anarchist punk rule the night at Victory Square, in the heart of the Olympic city.
"...Anti-2010 protesters, some carrying black flags and burning torches, gathered for what had all the hallmarks of a dress rehearsal for the street protests that could erupt during the Winter Games just over two weeks away.
"The crowd, mostly young, some wearing bandanas over their faces, had come to march against the "police repression" of anti-Olympic activism.
"...A few protesters with megaphones screamed slogans, often laced with obscenity, at startled motorists: "No 2010!" and "Did You Vote For Gordon Campbell?"
The reason for the protests? The tab.
SI writer David Zirin wrote the budget for the games has overshot its $660 million in taxpayer money to be closer to $6 billion with the meter still running ...a cool $1 billion of that will go to security alone, Zirin reports.
...Which brings us back to the 2022 Tahoe bid.
Yes, we've been pointing out the myraid reasons an Olympic Games will never again grace the rarified shores of Lake Tahoe (in spite of continued posturing from lawmakers and some well-meaning but misinformed locals) ...not unless California and Nevada can convince taxpayers to put $20 billion toward a bobsled track, a triple-in-size Reno-Tahoe International, a light rail to circumnavigate the lake instead of, you know, rehiring teachers.
