Basin is blowin' up
Happy Independence Day. ...We're making it slightly easier on you all... fireworks shows, and the best places to watch 'em — you're welcome.
Incline:
9:30 p.m. — Fireworks at Incline Beach
The Skinny: Last year, Red, White & Tahoe Blue, tony Incline's five-day celebration, dropped an alleged $200k on its half-hour fireworks show featuring the Reno Philharmonic scoring the affiar. This year, even though many of the town's ballers spent too much at the McCain campaign fundraiser ($3k a head for rubber-chicken lunch — suckers). So the fireworks are going to be scaled back.
Locals' spot: Worth the hike up Tunnel Creek — that's all we're gonna say.
SLT
9:45 p.m.
The Skinny: Top-10 in the country according to USA today. This'll be the longest show in the Basin (35 mins. last year); Incline tried to take the mantle, but this is 'the one'. Watch from Nevada, Regan or El Dorado beaches.

Locals' spot: Again, if you can get strip casino access (hint: carry a couple $20s w/you) ...do it. Otherwise, strap on those hiking boots and scramble your way up Heavenly.
Tahoe City:
9:30 p.m. — Fireworks at Commons Beach
Tahoe City cont'd:The Skinny: 63rd celebration should be a big one ...The downtown association was able to use the flagging economy to its advantage — securing a little more 'bang for their buck' this year; show's rumored to be on par with Incline this year and may rival heavy-hitter SLT.
Locals' spot: Find a rooftop (we're not saying which one though).
Truckee:9 p.m. — Fireworks at West End Beach
The Skinny: get there early (6ish) tickets seem to sell out quick on Donner. Kind of a Truckee thing ...so tread lightly if you're repping the 415, 510 or 916.
Truckee cont'd:
Locals' Spot: Keep going up Old 40. Pack a picnic ...Oh, and if you're really creative and are down for a hike from Mt. Judah — think lake run.
