Even tony Incline couldn't escape the fiscal reality that is 2009.
Red, White and Tahoe Blue, an Independence Day celebration which began in 2007, has streamlined its five days of concerts, fundraisers, cook-outs and fireworks shows into a long weekend of low-key days of pancake breakfasts and parades.
Tahoeticker columnist Ed Gurowitz, a founding member of RW&TB, reported Tuesday locals stepped up to raise $89k — and the fireworks celebration (click here for video) will go on.
...Albeit, not to the tune of last year's $200k-plus megaloshow feat. the Reno Philharmonic; but in some ways, the pared-down show is a better thing, he said.
"Fireworks are on ...free music at the beach, wine and cheese tasting, barbecues and (pancake) breakfasts," he said."Click the web site for full schedule."
For a bit, the fireworks show was in jeopardy.
In March, event founders Tom Bruno and Jim Smith sent out a notice to Incline residents imploring all families to pony up at least $25 each to keep the RW&TB fireworks show going.
A dearth of sponsorship dollars from local businesses and individual heavy hitters put the event in jeopardy.
